Disciplinary Consequences:
Teachers will post the Student Expectations for Success in their classroom and discuss the expectations and consequences periodically as needed. Clear expectations and consistent enforcement is the key to any behavioral management plan.
- Staff members are responsible to monitor student behavior and respond to all infractions that they directly observe.
- For simple infractions, students may receive a simple reminder, a warning or redirection of behavior (i.e. for talking too loud or trotting in the hallway).
- For minor infractions or repeated simple infractions that constitute a minor infraction, students will be written up and may receive a logical consequence at the discretion of the staff member (i.e. for running up the slide or being in the hallway without a pass).
1) A minor infraction in the classroom constitutes a refocus and parent contact. All minor infractions in the classroom will be recorded and handled by the teacher.
2) All minor infractions outside the classroom will be written up by the staff member who observed it. A copy of the write-up will go to a playground supervisor, the classroom teacher of the student, and the office administration. An administrator will meet with the offender and will log the write-ups, the classroom teacher will send the write-up home with the student for a parent signature.
- Any student who commits a minor infraction during recess will be sent to a time-out spot for a period of time.
- Any student who talks to a student who is on a time-out spot will be written up for a minor infraction and sent to a time-out spot as well.
- For major infractions or three documented minor infractions, an Office Referral Form should always be filled out by the staff member who observed the infraction (i.e. for blatantly disrespecting a teacher or aggressively hurting another student).
1) A student is referred to the office when he or she is written up for three minor infractions, or when he or she commits a major infraction. Students who need to be removed from the classroom or other situations will be escorted by an adult to the office. Call the office for an administrative escort when needed.
2) All completed office referral forms will result in some type of suspension.
Students who are sent to the office with an office referral form may:
- Sit in the time-out room in the office for a day or more.
- Be suspended out of school for a day or more.
- Not be eligible for reward activities without being accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- If a student is referred to the office multiple times, a Behavioral Intervention Team will be convened in behalf of the student.
