Dear 4th and 5th grade parents and guardians,

Your child has expressed an interest in joining the Honor Choir of Oregon Trail Elementary School. Honor Choir is a group of 4th and 5th grade students who meet together weekly to learn songs for various performances throughout the school year. It was a lot of fun and hard work last year for our kids, and we look forward to more joining us!

If your student is new to Honor Choir this year, they will need to go through an audition process. This process lets me assess one part of the abilities your student can bring to our Choir. This year, I am asking students to sing “America, the Beautiful”. It is on the back of this sheet. We have practiced it in class, but I have also provided this for them to practice as needed at home. They are NOT expected to have the piece memorized, but they can if they’d like. They will attend auditions on the day outlined below. If they are absent on their audition day, I will get with them another time. After auditioning all our new and incoming singers, I will get with classroom teachers to make sure the students coming into Honor Choir are leaders in their classroom for behavior and work ethic. Once those discussions have concluded, students joining us this year will be notified.

As a parent, you are also part of the process of deciding whether this activity is appropriate for your child and their schedule. We meet before school from 7:40a-8:00a on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Auditions dates our outlined below. Your student only needs to be present on the day of their class’s auditions. Our rehearsal start date is Tuesday, September 18, 2018 and students will be expected to attend Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at that point. More instructions for drop off, etc will come to those students who are in our final group.
