Every October we celebrate Red Ribbon week to raise awareness about violence and prevent alcohol, tobacco, and drug use. "Let's celebrate making good choices. We are kind to our mind and body. We are kind to others."

What's this song?!? Wednesday has been so fun! Mrs. Phillips, our music teacher is always spreading joy throughout our building. Each Wednesday a song is played over the intercom and classrooms all send their guess to which song they think is playing. The winning classroom receives an award that is showcased in their classroom for the week! Monster Mash was the winning song today.

Yesterday morning was a great start in Ms. Strom's Class. They started out with the pledge before going to the carpet for morning meeting. They took time to read their objectives for the day before watching Mrs. Willsey's Morning Meeting video. The book that was read was "Croc Needs to Wait". This is a great book for learning about patience, as well as helping them learn the importance of waiting their turn. They were given the time to practice these skills through a Stand Up, Hand Up, Pair Up structure that they have learned in the classroom. Thank you Ms. Strom for prioritizing student engagement in your classroom and giving students the chance to share their ideas with their peers. Photo Credit: Student Photographer, Barsa

A message from our principal... "Every child in this building brings something unique and special to Oregon Trail. They belong here. And this week, we have the privilege of communicating that truth to their families." Reach out to your child's teacher for more information. We would love to see you and your families!

On Wednesday in Mrs. Ferrara's class, Jaxon's mom came in to discuss spina bifida. We learned about what spina bifida is, how it is caused, and the treatment for the condition. We also learned about the challenges that people with spina bifida face, as well as the amazing opportunities Jaxon has had with some accommodations to the activities he loves! Students then participated in tasks in which they could feel the challenges a person with spina bifida can face. Thank you, Mrs. Palmer, for this amazing presentation!

Mrs. Tubbs and her students had such a fun morning! They participated in show and tell, morning meeting, and a project! Our student photographer enjoyed her time visiting second grade and wrote several times, "It's a hat, it's a boat, I think it's both." We love Mrs. Tubbs and the time she puts into her classroom. Thank you for being so wonderful! Photo Credit: Barsa, student photographer

It sounds like Mrs. Hill and her students had a great start to their day! They talked about distractions, examples of distractions, and had a great conversation about why it is hard to learn with distractions around us. A video from Mrs. Willsey was watched and they talked about different ways to control their bodies throughout the day. If you haven't met Mrs. Hill, you are missing out. She loves any and all students who walk into their classroom. Photo Credit: Barsa, student photographer

Week 8! We are so lucky to get snacks delivered to our classrooms several times a week and we are even luckier to have such amazing lunch ladies. This week was full of testing, lockdown drills, school wide expectations, partner work, fun in P.E., and accidental twinning.

Ms. Denny started out her morning talking about what the day would look like, including the lockdown drill that would take place this afternoon. Then they took some time to watch Mrs. Willsey's Morning Meeting lesson on Listening vs. Talking. There was a book that was read aloud, as well as a conversation about the importance of listening. This led perfectly into students moving to the carpet for their read aloud and conversations about the characters in the read aloud. Barsa, our student photographer was so impressed by how well behaved they were during this time. Thanks Ms. Denny for being at Oregon Trail. You make a difference everyday!
