🧱✨ Lego Group is building more than just Legos! ✨🧱

We are continuing to develop problem-solving skills, flexible thinking, attention to detail, and independence during our Lego Group sessions!

Last week, students took the next step after sorting Legos by identifying the pieces they needed and using a visual model to build. This week, we added an extra challenge: no talking and visual directions only! 🤫👀

Mrs. Willsey gave each student a bag of Legos and silently modeled each step. Students then had to carefully watch, problem solve, and figure out how to make their creations match hers, all without verbal directions!

It was definitely a challenge, but oh, was it fun! 💙 Students are showing so much growth with each session, and we are absolutely loving our daily Lego Group time! 🧱👏

📚🐺 Week 5 was a great one at Oregon Trail!

🛍️💰 The Boyle Bucks Store officially opened, and our Bank Manager and Store Manager did an amazing job! Students practiced making choices, saving, spending, and managing their money.

➕📏 Camp First Grade used popsicle sticks to measure objects around the classroom—even a friend! They practiced starting at the beginning, keeping a straight line with no spaces, and estimating lengths.

🧮✨ Our students are building confidence in math through hands-on learning, while Mrs. Christensen’s class practiced the date, sang their week song, talked about shapes, and counted.

🥞 Suve shared that Ms. McIntosh is teaching them lots of good things—and pancakes may have been included. 😋

👀 Some of our students also participated in vision screening this week.

✨ Week 4 was a great one! ✨

We packed so much learning, growing, and connection into our week at Oregon Trail! ❤️

🌅 Mrs. Seamons intentionally started each day by connecting with her students and setting the tone for a great day.

💵 Boyle Bucks officially began! Students received their classroom jobs, earned their first paychecks, and practiced cashing them at our classroom bank. So many real-world math skills happening right in our classroom!

🎲 Students learned how to play Flip 7 while practicing strategy, math thinking, and a little friendly competition.

💌 Students took time to thank their previous teachers for all they have done for them—a sweet reminder of the impact teachers have long after students leave their classrooms.

📊 Students and teachers continued working hard to collect data and learn more about student growth and learning.

🧮 Ms. Cameron’s students were so engaged during their math lesson! We love seeing students thinking, talking, and learning together.

🇺🇸 We remembered September 11th through student-centered videos and visits from our School Resource Officer, taking time to learn, reflect, and remember.

🍪 And of course, we enjoyed some cookies and math lessons with Mrs. Willsey!

Our FUNctional Friday theme this week was apples, and boy did we have fun! ❤️💚

We started with an apple counting book from our Bridges curriculum, then got creative using real apples to stamp paint. 🎨🍎 Of course, we couldn’t learn about apples without getting to taste them, too! Students had the opportunity to sample red apples, green apples, and applesauce.

We wrapped up our apple fun by sharing our opinions about apples! Students practiced expressing their thoughts and building communication skills by using sentence cards to share their ideas with friends. 🗣️💬

Fifth grade music classes are reviewing a folk song from 4th grade called "Shake the Papaya" to experience and read syncopated rhythms. Last year, we performed a B section as a class to go with the song. This year students are creating their own B sections with a partner or group and evaluating if their creation works with our piece when performed.
